The Township of Muskoka Lakes is a wonderful area towards the southern tip of the Canadian Shield. The community is built upon rock that has been here for 2 million years. This area is now surrounded by 80 beautiful lakes and the towering rock features. The three largest and most popular lakes in this area include Lake Muskoka, Lake Joseph, and Lake Rosseau. Muskoka is well known for its rocky landscape which displays our long history within the colourful layered details.
Despite larger populations during the summer months, 80% of Muskoka's natural land environment remains untouched and flourishes in its natural beauty. A special part of the Township of Muskoka Lakes is the Torrance Barrens Dark Sky Reserve, which encompases 5000 acres of protected land. Other hidden gems in this area include the Huckleberry Rock Trails, Muskoka Lakes Cranberry Marsh and Winery, Port Carling Winterfest, and Hardy Lake Provincial Park.
